Chapter 5
Reviving Old Feelings
Blessing you, Your God of Wonder—from Deuteronomy 32:7; Philippians 4:8; Psalm 100:5
Remember your history and your heritage. Reflect on the good things in your life. Think about truth and goodness. Contemplate things that are right, pure, and lovely. Have an attitude of gratitude for all I’ve done for you. My faithfulness is your rock through all generations.
It feels good to remember happy moments from the past—your first date, your child’s first steps, your father’s proud face when you hit the home run.
Scrapbooks are a wonderful way to keep us from losing those happy memories. One simple picture can bring back a memory long forgotten. Journaling that moment helps us remember the details and emotions.
A scrapbook revives those forgotten moments of your past. Big things, small things—it doesn’t matter. They’re all right there in your scrapbook. The memory is safe and secure. And so is the feeling.
You’ll smile remembering the romantic getaway you took with your husband on your second anniversary. You’ll laugh seeing photos of the silly costumes you made that took first place in last year’s fall festival. You’ll cry sweet tears looking back at the tiny infant you held so delicately—the baby who now towers over you.
Even remembering some not-so-good moments can be beneficial. Time has a tendency to soften our perspective on negative memories. Hopefully a bad experience will seem less terrible looking back. Or maybe you’ll realize how much you’ve grown despite that problem, or even how what seemed bad at the time worked out for the best.
Either way, memories are a blessing. Renewing them has the potential to renew a marriage, strengthen a friendship, or recharge your life.
